Rot Resistant Wood
Timbersil is currently involved in litigation over its claims.
Rot resistant wood. Wood as an engineering material- General Technical Report 113- USDA Forest Service Domestic Resistant or very resistant Moderately resistant Slightly or nonresistant. 8 Rot-Resistant Woods Naturally resistant woods that are commercially available include black locust Robinia pseudoacacia teak Tectona grandis ipe Tabebuia spp California redwood Sequoia sempervirens and bald cypress Taxodium distichum. Resistant or very resistant.
Tropical wood examples include ipe lignumvitae purpleheart and old-growth teak. It is grown in the US. Composites have no defects and do not compress like wood.
Cypress Cypress is moderately durable for decay resistance. It offers a high life expectancy when protected with a wood stain but is otherwise maintenance-free. Angelique azobe balata goncalo alves greenheart ipe iapacho jarrah lignumvitae purpleheart and old-growth teak.
An alternative to paulownia and cedar is a preservative-treated wood trim. And tends to be very affordable. As most resistant with an expected average service life of at least 20 years were heartwood of Douglas-fir western white pine redwoodEucalyptus sp red and white oak lodgepole pine ponderosa pine western red cedar.
The result is a product the company calls Glass Wood which they claim is Class A fire-retardant chemically inert rot and decay resistant and superior in strength to untreated wood. These are also long lasting woods resistant to warping decay cracking or twisting. Old-Growth Cypress The old-growth version of this resistant wood has so much more heartwood than its new or second-growth cousins that it is harder and has much greater resistance to rot and insects.
Some species of wood are naturally rot resistant due to complex chemical compounds that they evolved to protect themselves against decay. This beautiful non-treated wood has a look similar to Mahogany ranging in colors from medium to deep reds and there are even browns with hints of purple. These dense woods do not need a lot of maintenance and have a natural ability to repel rotting moisture insects.
