We were able to stay at a gift shop just outside the entrance to the park which was great because it was so close and had power for us.
Gemstone-grade petrified wood is typically rare. This is the spot where it is concentrated in much higher quantities than usual. Being able to say you own a piece of petrified wood from a popular forest naturally makes your specimen worth more money.
The park hours are 8am to 5pm daily. The rainbow of colors is produced by impurities in the quartz such as iron carbon and manganese. Right now there is no camping in the park.
