Pennsylvania Wood Roach

Geographical Range Though there are many species people call wood cockroaches these roaches in Pennsylvania are the most common in the eastern US.

Pennsylvania wood roach. Wood roaches arent household pests. However with the growing use of firewood the popularity of cedar shake shingles and the continual building of homes in wooded areas. When firewood is brought inside in the winter the glossy reddish-brown wingless nymphs warm up and can become quite active.

These cockroaches measure ¾ to 1 ¼ inches in length. Fortunately this early summer invasion is fairly short-lived. Both female and male Pennsylvania wood cockroaches have been found under shingles and on the inside of garages.

Adult male Pennsylvania wood cockroaches range in length from about 78 1 18 inch adult females are about 12 34 inch. Because wood cockroaches feed on decaying organic matter residents often find them beneath roof shingles or in woodpiles. Pennsylvania Wood roaches pose little threat to people.

Adult male Pennsylvania wood cockroaches grow to be between 78 and 1-18 of an inch in length. Pennsylvania wood roaches happily live outside in wooded areas behind tree bark inside of hollow trees and stumps and under rotting logs. Once these roaches get inside they tend to congregate on ceilings in attics and in or around appliance motors.

The males of any species fly rather fast although they cant fly and females are completely deprived of this enjoyment. The Pennsylvania wood cockroach is considered an occasional nuisance pest in homes in Pennsylvania. The females are smaller.

The Pennsylvania wood cockroach is most commonly sighted species probaly due to its behavior. Pennsylvania wood roach Parcoblatta pennsylvanica is the largest as it can reach 1-134 inches in length. But wood cockroaches fall into a category all their own.
