The wood has been used in various capacities as a substitute for the endangered Brazilian Rosewood.

Morado wood. The color can be highly varied ranging from reddishorange to a dark violetbrown usually with contrasting darker black streaks. Additionally it has a somewhat similar appearance to Honduras Rosewood. Morado is generally a fairly easy wood to work with hand and machine tools although inertlocking grain poses problems with cutting shaping and planing.

And the texture is so fine that youll enjoy working the wood with hand tools and giving it a gorgeous polish. Most of the material that begot the perception of quality in the rose wood family is now long gone old growth trees so perhaps its time to re-evaluate our preferences. Due to the short supply of this wood we are no longer offering Morado for the Top and Back.

Our Morado is now limited to Bolt-on Neck Features and Fingerboards. Also prized for its beauty and density Bolivian Rosewood is a popular musical instrument tonewood. It is also known by the names morado palo santo caviuna Brazilian ironwood and Bolivian rosewood though it is not actually rosewood.

Morado Pau Ferro are trade names for the same wood. Morado is a beautifully rich dark brown wood with darker streaks running through it. And because the wood is so similar in appearance and working properties to rosewood it is also sometimes referred to as Bolivian or Santos Rosewood.

Pau Ferro Bolivian Rosewood and Morado are the most common. The new all solid Lanikai Morado glossy concert and tenor ukuleles are very attractive visually with unique graining patters but they also project a full and rich tone. Morado is primarily used as an alternative to Brazilian rosewood although it is also recognized for its own unique characteristics.

Expect a stunning likeness to dark rich rosewood. Its grains are tighter than a typical rosewood specimen and it is thought to have a more distinctly percussive taptone than that of Brazilian. It is one of the most plentiful high-quality heavy timbers in the Caribbean.
