End grain wood flooring. This type of cut exposes the character of the wood rings and graining and as with a chopping block the surface of an end-grain tile is incredibly tough and durable. The end grain flooring on the other hand is made of wooden blocks sawn crosswise to the grain. Because the cuts are made across the board the end grain is exposed on the face of the tile just as it would be on a chopping block.
End grain boards are typically used to manufacture butcher blocks as an example. Onto the surface are plainly visible the annual rings of the tree. The product is then tongue and grooved end matched and finished.
