Wood chip mulch is great for keeping the weeds down retaining moisture keeping soil from eroding away and keeping your flower beds looking nice and uniform.

The next step is to saturate the chips with black and white liquor. Given the large particle size of this mulch there is value in the product by way of it holding its composition a lot longer than a finer particle mulch. Obviously you could expect good soil water retention the large chips in.

Make sure to soak your chips for 30 minutes to add moisture and prevent the chips from burning up too quickly. The traditional wood chip mulch is a design element in many housing developments. There are a lot of worries floating around out there though about bad things that wood chip mulch can do to your gardens.
